Construction Products Producers Federation (YÜF) came together wıth the Minister of Development, Lütfi Elvan
Minister Elvan: “We are open to concrete road usage proposal”
Important evaluations about the agenda were made by the Construction Products Producers Federation, which consisted of representatives who constitute the whole of the construction sector, which is the locomotive of the Turkish economy. In the organization, which the Minister of Development Mr. Elvan participated as honorary speaker, the agenda subjects were porous concrete, concrete roads and barriers, the use of high quality concrete in the residence, the use of municipal waste as waste fuel in the sector, the sustainable economic contribution of building materials production.
The Minister of Development, Lütfi Elvan said: “Construction Products Producers Federation has become the architecture of our economy by exporting close to 6 billion dollars.”
T.C Development Minister Lütfi Elvan, who met with the sector representatives, noted that the building materials sector has an important export potential in addition to the employment and value added for the country. The Minister said: “Our country, which is especially important in cement exports, aims to export its building material exports to a much higher level by strengthening its position in international markets.” Largely indigenous raw material is used in the building materials sector. The sector, which gives the net export surplus, provides foreign currency entry to our country. Particularly in the cement, ready-mixed concrete and lime sectors, close exports totaled 6 billion dollars between 2010 and 2016. On the other hand, the total imports of these materials in the same period are around 170 million dollars. This is a serious success."

“We are open to concrete road usage proposal”
With annual production volume, Turkey is the leader of concrete production in Europe. In addition, our country is the third largest producer of concrete in the world after China and the United States. Minister Elvan received information from the administration about the subject, underlined that they are open to proposals for the use of concrete roads, owning the national values of the necessary country.
Chairman of the Board M. Şefik Tüzün: ''We provide to the country economy 9.6 Billion turnover and 92 thousand people employment. ''
Şefik Tüzün made a presentation about the sector evaluation. He noted that the number of houses sold in Turkey in the first 8 months of 2017 increased by 7.7% to 890 thousand according to the latest announcement by TURKSTAT. Parallel to this, construction products makers also announced that the sector would reach $ 9.6 billion in 2016 and $ 10 billion in 2017.
Flood Disasters can be reduced by using Porous Concrete
Tüzün said: “We are carrying on the agenda using porous concrete for many years. In recent years flood disasters, especially in metropolises such as Istanbul, have brought the use of porous concrete back to the agenda. This is because the infrastructural problems and the waterproofing of the materials used in the roads have increased the disaster dimension. In roads and in parks with large surface area, the use of porous concrete in parking lots can prevent these problems from being widespread. Porous concrete applications, unlike the impermeable classical coating surfaces, allow rainwater to pass through the surface of the coating and transport it to the groundwater without polluting the water.”

More than 1.3 Billion Dollars Savings with Concrete Road Use
Tüzün mentioned that Turkey's current account deficit was announced as 32.6 billion dollars at the end of 2016 and underlined that imports of petroleum products have an important place in this table. Tüzün said  “If concrete road and concrete barrier technologies are utilized sufficiently, it will provide important advantages in order to cover expenses the country's economy especially from the raw capital from the domestic capital. It will save practitioners considerable time because of its long life and most importantly it will save as much as the Eurasian tunnel project every 3 years if it is used effectively in our country and it will cause the current deficit to decrease. For this reason, concrete roads should be used as an alternative option in our agenda. In our country, 6 million traffic accidents have occurred in the last 10 years. A total of 47,000 people lost their lives during these accidents.  20% of the total accidents were caused by one-sided vehicles leaving the road. The use of high quality concrete barriers in accordance with the standards has a preventive effect on these accidents.”

Contribution to the Environment by Producing Energy from Waste
Tüzün pointed out that 28 million tons of municipal solid waste is generated in Turkey and that it is possible to produce 7 million tons of additional fuel in the sector by transforming the waste material into energy. Tüzün said: “With the use of waste in the energy sector, It is possible to save about 3 million tons of coal or similar solid fuel imports, saving 1.7 million tons of CO2 annually from fossil fuels and reducing 7% of CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. Air pollution is also prevented by preventing methane gas which is formed in regular storage. Another point is that the electricity generated by waste heat from the installed capacity of our industry is at the level that provides the electricity of approximately 400 thousand houses daily in our country. With the investments, half of the capacity was reached.”
