Energy Harvesting From Industrial Waste Heat - The Icarus Project Finishes Soon
The ICARUS project, which began in August 2012 by the European Union FP7 funded a joint project. The project is scheduled to be completed in July 2014.

The ICARUS project, which was started in August 2012, is an European Union funded FP7collaborative project across the following countries: United Kingdom, Turkey, Spain, Greece, Estonia and Croatia. The participating organisations are:

•    European Thermodynamics Ltd, UK (Coordinator)
•    Pars Makina, Turkey
•    HRS Heat Exchangers SL, Spain
•    Chimar Hellas AE, Greece
•    Lafarge Tarmac Ltd, UK
•    TÇMB, Turkey
•    University of Nottingham, UK
•    ISRI, UK
•    Novamina, Croatia

TÇMB is representative of Turkey.

The aim of the project is to create a power generation technology for low temperature (60-120°C) heat. This will enable us to create a waste-heat power generation system for industrial (chemical, cement etc.) applications that can achieve an efficiency of up to 10-15% for electricity to be generated from industrial waste heat (<120°C) without affecting industrial processes. By doing this, the power generation system created will offer greatly improved environmental performance due to improved efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions at a cost that is affordable to the end-user. This will lead to significant economic and societal benefits to manufacturers.
