| Adnan İğnebekçili, Chairman of Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association, stated that in global competitive environment, Turkish Cement Industry became the largest manufacturer and exporter in Europe by major advance in recent times. While Turkish Cement Sector turn towards Sustainable Development, it has to compete with the challenges such as; high energy costs and capacity as well. |
| During the Dinner for Press on 1st of April, 2010, Chairman Adnan İğnebekçili and the Board Members have informed the press that the export has to be noticed by far. The previous period data evaluation and the expectations for 2010 and 2011 have also been discussed . |

Adnan İğnebekçili underlined that “there are 64 cement plants; 47 integrated plants and 17 grinding plants. 20 of those plants produced 1 million ton clinker each. In 2009, total cement production, including non-member plants to TÇMB, was 59,2 million tons, domestic consumption was around 42,7 million tons. The country-wide domestic sales were as same level as in previous years. Yet, the market has been wide differentiated by geographic locations. For example, 15 % contraction was performed in Marmara and Aegean Region, on the contrary, growth was considered at similar rates in East and Southeast Anatolia. This differentiation arose from the economic crisis affecting the most in these regions, where there are high economic activities.” |

İğnebekçili pointed out that the fuel and electrical costs being one of the important factors corresponding to 60 % of cement production costs are affecting the sector negatively. He also stated that widespread usage of waste oil and old vehicle tyres, which are used in European countries’ similar sectors as a waste fuel in common, has to be led up. |
| İğnebekçili : “ We should consider 2010 as a recovery period.” Based on the data announced by TÇMB, the investments within last 5 years caused domestic clinker production capacity rising 56 %, from 40.3 million tons to 63 million tons. If all of this production capacity is used, 75 million tons of cement would be produced in Turkey. In order to utilize all of the capacity, domestic market has to grow 75 % without considering exports. |
| Adnan İğnebekçili, Chairman of Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association, declared his opinion that “ We all know that such a rise is not possible for years in existing conjuncture. Although our country has high infrastructure and housing requirements, does not have equal finance potential to provide a boom for existing young population. In this case, we should all consider the situation that the slowdown in domestic markets will remain for a while. Thus, sectoral players have to make production plans by working on foreign markets as much as possible or have to accept the work reality by working low capacity. | ![]() |
| It is necessary that total country’s export (cement and clinker) is required to carry on the level of 20 million tons by sustaining export lunge in 2010, launched in 2009. 48 % cement export rise is achieved comparing to 2008. İncrease in exports especially to African markets and increasing in demand in Iraq and Syrian traditional markets cause record rising in cement exports to 16,5 milllion tons. |
| In my opinion, we shouldn’t expect a high recovery like in previous years based on the positive atmosphere. With the deepening of global crisis in EU countries after exisiting in USA, the problems in the Economies of Euro Region bring on new dimensions to the crisis. This development could bring new risks to our national economy. Therefore, I believe that we have to keep our position in short term and middle term forecasts. On this account we should consider 2010 as a recovery period. If there will be no new shocks during the crisis, then people can expect a stable growth period in 2011. |
