In this scope,

Information about the general situation in Egypt and the approach of the Government to the cement sector were given. It was emphasized that Egypt aimed at increasing the cement production capacity up to 60 million tons by 2012. It was also mentioned that the production capacity of approximately 180 million tons throughout the whole Arab world was anticipated to increase up to about 300 million tons along with turning of all the operating licences into production.

On behalf of Afreximbank, the general economic situation in Africa was commented, the projects and stimulus aimed at developing export and the economic structure were referred.

Some information about the targets of South Africa regarding an increase in production capacity in cement sector, business potential and the reflections of the World Cup 2010 to the sector was quoted.

A few words about the presence of Arab Cement in Egypt were spent and in terms of production strategy, the advantages (Raw material sources, low energy costs, fiscal stimulus etc.) and the disadvantages (Water, gas and electrical services, taking licence, labour costs etc.) of Egypt were mentioned. Besides, market estimations concerning the sector were presented.

The entry into the market and the expansion strategies in the Middle Eastern- North African Region (MENA) of ASEC Cement were narrated. Some information about new investment targets in Subsaharan African Countries, also, was given.

Ras Al Khaimah Co. presented some technical information regarding the white cement production, and the key figures of the producers on the basis of country. In terms of white cement production, the advantages of the regional characteristics of Middle East and North Africa (MENA) were also mentioned in the presentation. Furthermore, it was emphasized that white cement was export oriented rather than locally consumed.

On behalf of Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association, Mrs. Caglan Becan, Training and Evaluation Manager, made some evaluations related to the sector, and also gave some information about the services provided by the Association. By Ilhan Trading, the profile of Turkey was presented to the participants, the details regarding the import-export potential and the sectoral key figures were depicted. The results of the SWOT analysis of Turkish cement sector were also quoted.
