ISTANBUL, July 21 (Reuters) - Turkey's cement sector growth could hit double-digits this year on  domestic demand, although higher energy prices will likely sap profits, Turkey's Cement Manufacturers' Association (TCMA) said.
  
Chairman Adnan Ignebekcili told Reuters the industry association expected growth of 8 percent to 10 percent would feed into higher revenues, although profits would lag 2009.

4th Cement Trade Conference was held in İstanbul

An international conference, "4th Cement Trade" was held on 8 June 2010 by SteelTürk which is the partner of Rusmet in Turkey and Our Metals Group in Movenpick Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey with the support of Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association.

 

4th International Concrete Design Competition Awards Distributed

As preparatory for the Competition, students studied “monolithic’ concept at the workshop prepared in Istanbul between 4th -5th of February 2010 and afterwards entered the competition individually or as groups from different disciplines. 14 projects of various designs and opening up new vistas, entered  the 4th Concrete Design Competition.

Applications to 2010 Betonart Architectural Summer School begin

The 2010 Betonart Architectural Summer School to take place in Mersin University between 01 – 09 2010 will be organized by Betonart magazine printed for architects by Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TÇMB), for enabling the research of the alternative utilization areas of cement and concrete while increasing the environmental awareness and the physical environment quality. The Project Concept of 2010 Betonart Architectural Summer School, sponsored by Çimsa Mersin Cement Plant and in cooperation with Mersin University Department of Architecture, is defined as “redesigning the smallest building unit “.



Concrete Seminar for Building Inspection Sector

Construction Products Producers’ Federation (YUF) put signature to an extraordinary stand work in the Istanbul Construction Fair organized in TÜYAP Fair and Convention Center on May 5 - 9 2010. The stand displaying an innovative concrete application, reminiscent of “Concrete-Design for a Library” has got much attention of visitors.

 

Turkish Cement Sector has opened its doors to Sustainable Development

On the occasion of Open Week activities traditionally organized by TÇMB, taken place between dates 26 April - 4 May 2010 at different member plants a press meeting was held. Mustafa Güçlü, Vice Chairman of TÇMB, stated that Turkish Cement Sector, from which 60% development expected in ten years, aims to define its line of course towards sustainable development principles, and is ready to fulfill the responsibilities in equity with other sectors as part of Kyoto Protocol and Environmental Negotiation of European Union.

Güçlü stressed that Turkey’s Development Priority has to be the starting point after the end of Kyoto Protocol and EU Negotiations, particularly industry and all sectors should make large technological investments and have to make up infrastructural deficiencies. He also added that there is a need for large source of finance and time for carrying out all these plans.


Cement Export and revival in domestic market show promise

During the Dinner for Press on 1st of April, 2010, Chairman Adnan İğnebekçili and the Board Members have informed the press that the export has to be noticed by far. The previous period data evaluation  and the expectations for 2010 and 2011 have also been discussed .
Intercem Cairo was Completed

During the Intercem Conferences held in Cairo between 15- 17 March 2010, in general the current market situations in Africa and Arabian Peninsula were evaluated, country reports concerning potential markets were presented and the easy and difficult ways of entering into these markets were discussed. Besides, reflections to the profile on the basis of country, current profits and probable results of political, economical and social developments particularly in African countries and Arabian Peninsula were interpreted.

At the organization more than 400 participants from 50 countries took part, Turkey was represented by totally 42 delegates, two of whom were speakers.

 

Two Directors of National Council for Cement and Building Materials of India made a visit to Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association, Turkish the cement sector’s umbrella establishment, to enrich the relations and negotiate further cooperation areas between 18- 19 March 2010 for 2 half days.

 

Colleagues Meeting for Raw Material Group was Completed

Another meeting for colleagues of 2010 was organized for raw material departments of the plants on 18 March 2010 in Cement Industry Employers’ Association Ankara Building.

The meeting’s chairman, attended by 36 participants was Hayer Yalnız, Manager of Raw Material Department of Batıçim Çimento.

 

Another training program of 2010, TS EN/ ISO 17025 Laboratory Accreditation Basic Training and Auditor Training was held between 01- 03 March 2010, Uğur Gedik, Head of Quality System and Certification Department of Council for Quality and Environment was the trainer.

 

TÇMB 52nd General Assembly and the New Administrative Board

The 52nd General Assembly of Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TÇMB)  was held on 20 February in Ankara. Elections took place for the Administrative and Auditing Boards. In the new Administrative Board Adnan İğnebekçili from Set Beton was elected as the President for the 6th consecutive term. As in the last term, Mustafa Güçlü from Çimentaş was assigned to be his Deputy and Celalettin Çağlar from Mardin Cement to be the Assistant President.

 

Within the framework of its meetings to search solutions for sectorial problems, Construction Products Producers’ Federation (YÜF) this time has met on the topic of environment. In the meeting Adnan İĞNEBEKÇİLİ, chairman of YÜF and Sedat Kadıoğlu, deputy undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry shared their views and relevant information on the harmonization process for the Kyoto Protocol and EU Environment Legislation, with the representatives of the sector.

 

Workshop of Concrete Design

The 4th International Concrete Design Competition workshop, hosted and organized by Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association, took place on 4-5 February 2010 at the Faculty of Architecture of Yıldız Technical University, Deniz Güner (Dokuz Eylül Üniversity) was moderating the workshop while Sinan Omacan (İstanbul Tehcnical University), Hakkı Yırtıcı (Kültür University), Ayşegül Kuruç (Mimar Sinan University), Ayşen Ciravoğlu (Yıldız Technical University), Burak Altınışık (Bahçeşehir University) were the coordinators.

 

Opening of TÇMB Technical and Industrial Vocational High School

Vocational high schools and technical schools are important for the training of intermediate work force which constitute the back bone of an industry and this is an area where the industry and the education sector should cooperate in joint effort.
For years, Turkish cement sector has adopted the model of  sustainable development  and Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TÇMB) has been conducting programs to train young persons so that the sector could provide them with more job opportunities.

In this context, TÇMB contributed to the realization of another first: Establishment of the
first “Cement Technical and Industrial Vocational High School” in the country, helping  the training of the high school youth and preparing them for the professional life.

 

4th Concrete Design Competition

The International Concrete Design Competition for Students is a biennial ideas and design competition for students in architecture, engineering, design and affiliated disciplines. It is organized and funded by a consortium of European cement and concrete associations and open for students subscribed in an educational institute in one of the participating countries.
 
The International Concrete Design Competition for Students aims at promoting innovative design attitudes related to the use of concrete as a material and a technology. It is characterized by its format: each competition cycle is framed by a theme designating a specific property of concrete.

The 10th Technical Seminar Completed

The 10th  Technical Seminar organized by TÇMB every 2 years, a place for the international companies developing new technologies, systems and products to introduce themselves to the decision makers of the technical departments of the cement plants, was held between 04-06 November 2009 in Antalya, Concorde de Luxe Resort Hotel.

 

In accordance with the protocol signed between Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association and Arab Union for Cement & Building Materials in order to exchange information and improve cooperation between the Turkish and Arab Countries cement industries, a study tour program was organised by TÇMB. Representatives were invited from Arab Union to the program. Two Syrian delegates  have visited our association and center.

10th Technical Seminar will be held at Concorde de Luxe Hotel in Antalya between 04-06 November, 2009 by Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TCMA). TCMA is organizing this event since 1987 in every two years, aiming to introduce new developments and meet the executives and multinational companies in the sector.

In cooperation with Turkish Standards Institute and inconformity with Turkish Accreditation Agency and European Organization of Quality, TÇMB has organized “TS EN ISO 14001 Environment Management System Assessor/ Lead Assessor Training Program and Exam” on 15- 19 June 2009 for member plants experts whom to apply and have been applying the TS EN ISO 14001 Standard in their factories.

A protocol was signed between Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association and Arab Union for Cement & Building Materials on May 12, 2009 in a meeting hosted by TCMA,Turkey in order to exchange information and improve cooperation between the Turkish and Arab Countries cement industries.

TCMA Organized 51th General Assembly

Addressing the audience in the 51th General Assembly of the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TCMB) at Ankara Bilkent Hotel, Adnan İğnebekçili, the chairman of the board of directors said: “We are expecting the demand for cement to shrink by 8-10% on the one hand and the installed clinker capacity to reach the level of 60 million tons with the new investments on the other hand this year. Our sector is facing a grave problem of excess capacity due to the stagnation in the domestic markets and the contraction in the export markets.
